Salary: 90K+
Key Responsibilities
- Preparing and filing trademark applications
- Preparing and filing assignments, title documents and change of address information with CIPO
- Reminding clients of upcoming due dates
- Requesting extensions of time
- Administering foreign filing reminders (if required)
- Reporting examiner reports and suggesting responses to goods and services objections
- Reporting advertisement of applications
- Reporting notices of allowance
- Paying registration fees
- Reporting issuance of certificates of registration
- Administering reminders to file the declaration of use
- Requesting extensions of time to file declarations of use and filing same
- Administering reminders for renewal of registrations; renewing registrations; and reporting issuance of renewal certificate
- Reporting notice of abandonment to clients
- Preparing statements of opposition
- Investigating references in search reports
Additional Duties
- Monitoring due dates
- Preparing instruction letters to foreign associates and supporting documents
- Entering new due dates and checking for renewal certificates
- Preparing reporting letters to clients
- Sending client reminders re: Section 8 & 15 Declarations and renewal deadlines
- Coordinating Statements of Use and post registration documents with foreign counsel
- Entering due dates for Section 8 & 15 Declarations and renewal applications
- Preparing instruction letters to associates or USPTO (concerning post allowance and post registration)
Qualifications
- Law Clerk Diploma/Certificate or equivalent experience with 10 plus years of relevant work experience in trademarks
- Strong working knowledge of legal software and standard software (PATTSY, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Knowledge of legal terminology, procedures and statutes
- Excellent interpersonal, communication (verbal and written), time management and prioritization skills
- Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills
- Professional, mature, consistency of approach, including the ability to deal with clients, and all levels of staff
- Team player and the ability to work independently
