Key Responsibilities
- Draft office action reports and responses, including goods and services
recommendations and technical objection reports - Draft assignments and other title recordals, as well as address changes
- Classification of goods and services
- Preparing first drafts of opinions using standard precedents
- Review client provided specimens for use of marks
- Review client instructions and take appropriate action with the direction of the
professional - Other relevant duties
Qualifications
- Legal Assistant Diploma/Certificate or Law Clerk Degree
- Familiarity with IP docketing and DMS software
- Two to five years relevant trademark working experience
- Experience with the trademark process including application preparation, filing, prosecution, registration, renewal, and management of trademark portfolios
- Familiarity with the Canadian Intellectual Property Office’s Goods and Services Manual, and accompanying provisions in it’s Trademarks Examination Manual
- Strong working knowledge of legal software and standard MS Office software (Word, Excel)
- Proactive, problem-solving skills
- Solid time management skills, able to work on assignments from multiple
professionals - Excellent attention to detail and work product presentation
- Bilingual – French and English would be an asset
