Key Responsibilities
- Conduct detailed legal research on statutes, case law, and precedents relevant to ongoing matters.
- Draft and prepare litigation documents, including pleadings, motions, briefs, and discovery requests.
- Review and summarize depositions, discovery materials, and other case-related documents.
- Organize and maintain client files to ensure accuracy, accessibility, and proper record-keeping.
- Track court dates, deadlines, and case milestones to ensure timely action and follow-up.
- Assist with trial preparation by organizing exhibits, evidence, and witness lists, and preparing trial binders and courtroom materials.
- Provide hands-on support during trials, managing exhibits and assisting with the presentation of evidence.
- Liaise with expert witnesses and coordinate their involvement in trial preparation and testimony.
- Collaborate with legal teams on eDiscovery processes, including data identification, preservation, collection, processing, review, and production using IPRO and Reveal.
- Load processed data into eDiscovery databases, assist in reviewing and analyzing electronically stored information (ESI), and apply coding or conduct searches to identify relevant documents.
- Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory standards throughout the eDiscovery process, maintaining data integrity and confidentiality.
- Use litigation support tools such as iManage (DMS), ACL (Automated Civil Litigation), IPRO, and Reveal, troubleshooting issues and collaborating with IT or vendors as needed.
- Stay current with developments in litigation support technology and contribute to implementing improved tools and processes.
- Communicate with clients to gather information, provide updates, and respond to inquiries under the supervision of the Managing Partner and lawyers, maintaining professionalism and discretion at all times.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 7+ years in a litigation law clerk role, preferably within a law firm or legal department.
- Law Clerk designation from the Institute of Law Clerks of Ontario (ILCO). Certification in eDiscovery (e.g., CEDS) or related technical skills is an asset.
- Proficiency in using IPRO, Reveal, litigation software (ACL), and document management systems (iManage), or the demonstrated aptitude to quickly learn and use these tools.
- Excellent organizational abilities with a keen attention to detail and the capacity to manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
- Strong research and analytical skills with the ability to handle complex legal issues and large data sets.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact confidently with clients, lawyers, and IT professionals
