Litigation Law Clerk
Cartel is looking for a Litigation Law Clerk for one of our esteemed Clients, located in Mid-Town Toronto. Salary: Up to $90K
Key Responsibilities
- Provide outstanding client service in communications, drafting and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders
- Draft and collate various pleadings and court documents (including drafting Factums, Book of Authorities, Statements of Claim, Statement of Defence, Affidavit of Documents, Motion Records, Mediation Briefs, Pretrial Briefs, Notices of Examination, Trial Records, etc.)
- Trial and arbitration preparation
- Meet with lawyers regularly to ensure all files are up to date
- Schedule court appointments
- Engage in file management (e.g. opening files, file reviews, scheduling examinations for discovery and mediation)
- General administrative duties, including but not limited to scanning, photocopying, perform administrative duties with respect to accounting, opening and closing files, docketing, billing and etc.
- Transcribe dictation regularly
- Manage key dates and update calendars for lawyers, including appointments, due dates and client-related activities
- General administrative duties, including but not limited to docketing own time, scanning, filing, photocopying, scheduling appointments, file opening and closing and etc.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Law Clerk diploma or is working towards their qualifications
- Minimum 5 + years working as a law clerk for a busy law firm
- A keen understanding of Civil Litigation, Employment Law, Estates Litigation, various court procedures
- Ability to receive instructions and work efficiently with eight (8) lawyers simultaneously
- A strong understanding of the Rules of Civil Procedure
- Excellent computer skills including PCLaw, Word and Outlook
- Exceptional client management skills, trustworthy, accountable, proactive and a positive work attitude
- Works well under pressure, organized, manage priorities and meet deadlines
- Self-starter and able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to communicate in a professional manner with clients and lawyers
- Keen eye for detail, professional attitude, confidence and ability to maintain confidentiality
- Great teamwork skills and positive work attitude
