As a LAW Clerk you will be responsible for reviewing files, prepare briefs and summaries, and handle other similar duties. Key Responsibilities
- Review client files as received, prepare detailed memorandum on liability and damages (synopsis), organize and brief the records
- Prepare the Statement of Defence
- Request documentation from Plaintiff’s counsel, prepare summary of same and report to client
- Prepare various briefs, including liability, damages and medical
- Prepare summaries and report to client
- Arrange Examinations for Discovery, prepare Affidavit of Documents, follow-up re undertakings and complied with same
- Responsible for identifying what experts were required and prepare the retainer letters
- Prepare simple Motions i.e. undertakings preparing the file for trial, including identifying witnesses, preparing Summons, Request to Admit and Notice of Intention
- Prepare all closing documentation i.e. Release and Order
- Other duties as required
Qualifications
- 4+ years of Insurance Defence experience within a law firm
- Law Clerk diploma/ILCO Certification
- Strong working knowledge of the Rules of Civil Procedure
- Superior drafting abilities
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to work well under pressure
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while paying attention to detail
- Excellent interpersonal and client service skills
- Strong technical skills (including Microsoft Office)
- Flexibility to work overtime when necessary
