Our client, a renowned business firm with over 90 years of experience, is seeking a litigation assistant for their team. Located in downtown Toronto, the company offers attractive perks, benefits and the opportunity to hone your skills by working on cardinal projects. As a Litigation Assistant, you will be responsible for the preparation and management of court/legal documents, client files, expense reports as well as other miscellaneous tasks. The successful candidate must be able to work in the capacity of an executive assistant and should be able to work well under pressure in a busy work milieu.
As an Employment Litigation Assistant, your responsibilities include:
- Preparing, compiling, serving and filing court documents in accordance with the Ontario Rules of Civil Procedure and practice directions.
- Preparation of expense reports, docket entries, accounts and other administrative duties.
- Managing and coordinating lawyers’ schedules, including coordinating client meetings, conference calls and travel arrangements.
- Maintaining lawyers’ calendar and bringing forward system.
- Drafting and responding to correspondence.
- Organizing and maintaining client files.
- Drafting, transcribing and typing legal documents.
- Organizing and expediting the flow of work
- Initiating follow-up as required and communicating with clients
- Calendar management, scheduling meetings and book boardrooms
- Other general duties as required
What you’ll bring
- 8+ years of litigation experience
- Prior experience working with Ontario Human Rights Tribunal, Small Claims/Provincial Offences Court, Ontario & Superior Court of Justice & the Ontario Court of Appeal
- Successful completion of Legal Assistant diploma
- Strong technical skills using MS Office Programs (knowledge in PC Law is an asset)
- Ability to communicate in a professional manner
- Detail-oriented with good proofreading, multi-tasking skills, strong organizational and time management skills
- A team player with excellent interpersonal skills
- Ability to take initiative, work well independently, follow instructions with minimal supervision
