Legal Assistant/Clerk - Corporate Law/Wills and Estates (4072) Full Time

Salary range: Up to $55k

Primary Duties Include:
  • Opening files 
  • Obtaining and inputting Client ID
  • Closing files 
  • Ordering files to be retrieved from storage
  • Billing files (including creation of bill, posting with Accounting, sending bill out with cover letter/email, filing)
  • General filing of documents, including copying and scanning
  • Ensuring Database is updated as necessary
  • Drafting Wills and POAs on instructions
  • Witnessing execution
  • Following through on Wills checklist, including Affidavits of Execution, scanning, providing copies, etc.
  • Creation of documents such as Leases, based on mark-ups
  • Formatting tasks
  • Searches- PPSA, Corporate Profile, etc.
  • Incorporations, Articles of Amendment, Amalgamation
  • Share transfers, changes to Board, officers, bylaws
  • Filing Notices of Change
  • Updating Emergent database (including on document creation and on transaction finalization
  • Annual Resolutions
  • Occasional CBCA filing requirements
  • Following up on Emergent reminders
  • Following up on documents not yet returned re: for purposes of updating Emergent
  • Audit Letters
  • Following procedure re: responding to request, issuing Memo to lawyers, following up, issuing audit letter response, billing, filing
  • Strong knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite in particular, Microsoft Word

Required Experience/Skills/Qualifications
  • Minimum 2+ years of experience as a Corporate and Wills and Estates Law experience 
  • Successful completion of a legal assistant and or law clerk course
  • Will be required to use Dictaphone
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office, specifically Word (typing, editing, and formatting)
  • Ability to be organized, multitask, prioritize, meet deadlines and exhibit sound judgment
  • Client-service oriented, including strong interpersonal and relationship building skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
