Salary: Up to $80K
Key Responsibilities
- Preparation of affidavits of documents using litigation support programs;
- Scanning of documents into electronic form and integrating electronic documents into litigation support programs;
- Summarization of transcripts of examinations for discovery and preparation of lists of undertakings and refusals;
- Drafting and/or preparing various legal documents (pleadings, notices of motion, facta, bills of costs/costs outline, etc.);
- Compiling records and briefs and perfecting appeals;
- Preparation and filing of enforcement proceedings such as writs of execution and notices of garnishment;
- Arranging for service of legal documents and filing with proper courts;
- Managing and tracking deadlines, dates and appointments, including managing the lawyers’ calendars and scheduling appointments and court dates as needed;
- Assisting counsel with trial preparation;
- Knowledge of caselines; and
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Certificate in a Legal Assistant program or equivalent;
- 5+ years of experience as a litigation legal assistant (construction law is an asset);
- General knowledge of Civil Procedure;
- Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written;
- Team player with a positive attitude;
- Takes initiative while using discretion and good judgment in decision making;
- Excellent technical knowledge of Microsoft applications, especially Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Caselines and Adobe Acrobat;
- Excellent client service skills;
- Highly organized;
- Excellent time management and prioritization skills; and
- Strong attention to detail.
