Salary: Up to $90K
Key Responsibilities
- Draft legal pleadings (e.g., Statements of Claim, Notices of Motion), affidavits, motions, and correspondence.
- Prepare and edit court documents, trial records, pre-trial and mediation materials.
- Prepare for Examinations for Discovery
- Draft or revise legal correspondence with clients, counsel, and experts.
- Manage files and limitation dates.
- Organize and maintain physical and electronic file documents.
- Request, obtain, organize, review, and summarize medical records and expert reports.
- Prepare medical chronologies and briefs to assist lawyers in understanding the medical issues
- Communicate professionally with clients to answer inquiries and gather information.
- Coordinate with medical professionals, experts, counsel, insurers, and third parties.
- Assist in scheduling discoveries, mediations and other procedural events.
- File and serve documents according to Ontario court procedures (e.g., e-filing, CaseLines).
- Assist with trial preparation, including exhibits, briefs, and organization of evidence.
- Provide support for hearings, mediations, and trials.
Qualifications
- Completion of a recognized Law Clerk Diploma
- 5+ years supporting medical malpractice
- Strong knowledge of the Rules of Civil Procedure and civil litigation process.
- Legal software or experience with (e.g., TimeMatters, PC Law, Primafact, ACL, CaseLines) and MS Office. Computer savvy.
- Excellent drafting, proofreading, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple files and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
- Professional communication skills with clients and team members.
- Discretion and ability to handle sensitive medical and legal information.
