Salary: Up to $70K
Key Responsibilities
Drafting, proofreading, serving, and filing legal documents specific to employment and labour litigation matters, including pleadings, affidavits, notices of motion and case conference materials.
Supporting multiple lawyers in a fast-paced labour and employment litigation practice.
Preparing detailed reports by compiling and analyzing data from employment files; Providing transcriptions.
Maintaining physical and electronic document management systems for tribunal matters (e.g., Ontario Labour Relations Board, Human Rights Tribunal) and court filings.
Drafting and organizing bills of costs and cost outlines for employment and labour-related litigation and administrative hearings.
Managing lawyer calendars and scheduling court, tribunal, arbitration and mediation dates, while coordinating with opposing counsel and clients.
Exercising initiative and sound judgment to proactively manage litigation timelines, ensure compliance with procedural rules, and anticipate lawyer needs.
Using legal software such as Caselines for electronic hearing preparation, ACL for document automation and court-specific e-filing systems (e.g., ONSC, HRTO).
Opening and closing labour and employment litigation files.
Providing coverage and support for other legal assistants within the employment and labour law group during absences or peak periods.
Performing additional litigation support tasks and administrative duties as required.
Qualifications
Minimum 4 years of litigation experience in a law firm, with a strong focus on employment and labour law considered a significant asset.
Direct experience with the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario (HRTO) and/or Ontario Labour Relations Board (OLRB) processes is an asset.
Completion of a Legal Assistant or Law Clerk diploma from a recognized institution.
Proven ability to manage multiple tasks and support several lawyers simultaneously in a high-volume environment.
Strong team player with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Solid knowledge of the Rules of Civil Procedure, with practical experience in employment related matters.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) and legal-specific software such as Caselines, ACL and court e-filing platforms.
