This is a senior accounting role for someone who doesn’t want to sit on the sidelines of the business. A well-established firm in Markham is looking for a senior accounting professional with a minimum of two years of experience to join its hybrid remote team. Key Responsibilities
Review daily bank transactions, monitor for discrepancies, update pre-authorized payments, and complete bi-monthly/monthly reconciliations for all firm accounts
Review firm Visa transactions and ensure proper coding and compliance
Monitor bank loan balances, support forecasting, and update weekly cash flow and budget projections
Coordinate with legal team, clients, and insurers on deposits (e-transfer/EFT/wire) and process incoming payments
Manage accounts payable for the firm and management company, including invoice review and weekly payment processing
Maintain file protection schedules and handle insurance-related policies, claims, and reporting
Process reimbursement and general cheque issuance as required
Provide backup support for accounts receivable functions, including invoicing, disbursements, and billing
Maintain employee records, including vacation/sick tracking, payroll updates, and staff inquiries
Assist with weekly payroll preparation and annual T4 distribution
Review correspondence from CRA/Ontario Services regarding tax filings, audits, and assessments
Support month-end and year-end close processes for both the law firm and management company
Prepare and submit regulatory filings, including HST returns, LawPro reporting, LSO annual filings, and tax installments
Maintain financial schedules (budgets, RRSPs, salaries, etc.) and support cash flow planning and reporting
Prepare weekly performance and cash flow reports for leadership
Review accounting work in PClaw and QuickBooks, troubleshoot issues, and support staff with corrections and guidance
Support compliance with LSO requirements and contribute to improving accounting processes and controls
Assist with financial and operational analysis projects (insurance, leases, costs, profitability, etc.)
Liaise with internal teams, vendors, and financial institutions as needed
Other duties as required
Qualifications
Accounting diploma from a community college; working towards CPA is preferred
Minimum two years accounting experience is required in a professional service firm; previous work experience in a law firm is required
Competency in MS Office application including Word, Excel and Outlook
Attention to detail and ability to multi-task is a must
Strong communication skills, team player, good organizing and planning skills
Willing to learn and be trained in the job
PCLaw and QuickBooks experience is preferred
