Legal Assistant – Litigation (2871) Full Time

Our client is seeking to hire a Legal Assistant with 2-5 years of litigation to work in the areas of Commercial Litigation, Employment, Human Rights, Insurance Litigation and Commercial Landlord/Tenant. The ideal candidate must have excellent written and verbal communication, strong document formatting abilities, conduct all interaction with the utmost professionalism, be eager to learn and is proactive. Exceptional interpersonal skills, ability to work with large volumes of work while maintaining priorities and initiative will be needed in this role. Apply ASAP to be considered! Salary: Up to $55K

Primary Duties Include

  • Organize and maintain client files
  • Draft, transcribe and type legal documents
  • Organize and expedite flow of work
  • Prior experience working with Ontario Human Rights Tribunal, Small Claims/Provincial Offences Court, Ontario & Superior Court of Justice & the Ontario Court of Appeal
  • Draft and respond to correspondence
  • Initiate follow-up as required and communicate with clients
  • Calendar management, scheduling meetings and book boardrooms 
  • Prepare and coordinate client billings
  • Perform administrative duties including accounting, opening and closing files, docketing, cheque requisitions, etc.
  • Perform administrative and general office and other duties as assigned

Required Experience/Skills/Qualifications

  • Successful completion of Legal Assistant diploma
  • 2-5 years of Civil/Commercial Litigation experience
  • Proficiency in MS Office and experience with Tymetrix is an asset 
  • Ability to communicate in a professional manner
  • Detail oriented with good proofreading, multi-tasking skills, strong organizational and time management skills
  • A team player with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to take initiative, work well independently, follow instructions with minimal supervision
  • Proficiency in MS Office, familiarity with PowerPoint is essential
  • Availability to work overtime, when necessary
